Understanding Chinese Medicine

CM (Chinese Medicine) is the medical system of China and is based on the same underlying principals as EAM (East Asian Medicine) which is the medicine of Asia as a whole. Throughout Asia it is known by many names depending on the country and modalities used.

As all medicine comes from its cultural base then CM is no different. It comes from a time in history in which society was essentially based on nature. Therefore understanding nature’s rules and the effect this has on the human condition is the fundamental principal of this medicine.

These cycles of nature explain what is happening and staying within a balanced state will ensure our wellbeing. Therefore CM has developed a system of understanding the rules and treatment protocols to keep our state of balance. When we lose this state then we are living outside of the normal cycles of life. When this occurs we develop signs and symptoms which is the body’s way of telling us we have loss our state of wellbeing and are now living in a dis-eased state. If this continues then illnesses will occur.

Change and Qi (energy) and body fluids of the body just as a farmer will observe these cycles and their affects his animals and crops. It is when these cycles are out of balance either on a farm or within the body that signs and symptoms appear which is indicative of dis-ease.

Therefore like a river if the Qi loses its rhythmic flow then the tissues are deprived of their nourishment; such as when a river is blocked, floods or dries up, the land that depends on it then it will suffer with some level of dis-ease.

Dis-ease of the body will therefore manifest as many of our common ailments such as; stiffness, aches & pains, insomnia, skin problems and many of our serious diseases such as asthma, stroke, high blood pressure, arthritis, and infertility.

Regardless of the aliment dis-ease always involves a disruption to the natural flow of Qi. Therefore helping the body correct this natural rhythm is the true power of CM.
